About the report:
The third ranking of the largest Polish companies of key importance for the economy. The main topic is human capital. Developing it in times of great uncertainty caused by COVID-19 may be a huge challenge not only for the companies themselves, which have been affected by a sharp decline, but above all for the economy, which is also influenced by long-term trends such as automation and the ageing of society. The report includes a ranking of Polish national champions prepared on the basis of the proprietary index. It consists of the average score in four key categories: economy, industry, foreign and innovation. On the basis of the calculations, 40 Polish companies can be considered as champions in these four categories.
Key conclusions:
- Human capital is one of the key resources of the modern economy.
- As OECD analyses show, expanding human capital across the entire population can contribute to an overall welfare growth and an increased production potential and sense of happiness.
- Five state-owned and six private companies top the ranking of Polish national champions. The winners of the ranking - PKN Orlen and KGHM - were called international champions. The next nine: Asseco, Boryszew, Grupa Lotos, PGNiG, Polpharma, JSW, Comarch, Ciech and Stalprodukt were qualified to the category of national champions.
- For the first time, the winner was PKN Orlen, which was one point ahead of the KGHM Polska Miedź capital group. Orlen's success is mainly due to the improvement of the result in the innovation category, including the increased involvement in research and development.
